I had a treat this morning as the SO drove me to work, as he needed to get his tyre fixed and we heard the last bit of a radio announcement saying that a 63-year-old had died from suspected suicide. I asked him what the name was and he said he hadn't heard either and we carried on driving. When I got into work I can honestly say I had a lump in my throat when I found out the 63-year-old was infact Robin Williams. "You're only given a little spark of madness. "The victim should have the right to end his life, if he wants. But I think it would be a great mistake. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope." - Stephen Hawking I was happily scrolling around the internet yesterday and I saw the below trailer. It metaphorically blew my mind for two main reasons: Stephen Hawking is one of my ultimate heroes, and I had no idea such a film was even in production. After watching the trailer four or five times, I am now more excited about it than ever. The film focuses on the time that Stephen gets diagnosed with the condition that was set to ruin his life. But we all know that that isn't how the story ends at all. Based on the memoir by his first wife Jane, the film claims to tell the "extraordinary story of one of the world's greatest living minds". From the trailer, it looks to start around the time the two first meet and the romance begins while at Cambridge University.
Little was expected from 21-year-old Stephen when he got the diagnosis that he had motor neuron disease as it was sure to cripple him, which it by all accounts did, but he was to exceed all expectations, especially when doctors gave him just two years to live. Yesterday was one of the very few Saturday nights where I left my pjs and Netflix behind in favour of a night on the town.
It was one of my favourite people's hen dos and I couldn't have had a better night. It always surprises me how the people you work with and see everyday become like your second family within a matter of months. I truly love the people I work with everyday and feel lucky to have such good eggs in my life (especially when I have to spend 40+ hours a week with them). My 'hauls' are often small by blogging standards as I'm always careful of my pennies, partly because I'd rather spend my money on adventures but also because I will be moving again within the next year or so and I really hate packing. I needed to go to the Range as I dropped my clock on the floor and wanted to frame my Brandenburg pictures. I didn't expect to get something to fit the postcards from Berlin but I found the perfect frame and it was just £5.49 so it was extra perfect. As soon as I saw this atlas clock I fell in love with it. It will fit brilliantly with my globes, which I plan to make a crazy collection of. I wasn't expecting to buy the candle set but I loved it and just couldn't put it back. It was £14.99 but I wanted it for my coffee table so bought it but when I got to the checkout, it was reduced to £7.99 as there wasn't the glass jars to go with it. I also bought three African Rain Candles, which were £1.99 each, and will look perfect on the plate. I absolutely love these bits and can't wait to jazz up my coffee table and home with them. Hello August, you have definitely come around sooner than I was expecting but I don't mind in the slightest. As a kid, August was filled with days spent outside getting muddy and usually wet, going to parks in the early evening and then having barbecues, before going to sleep under the stars. Now while I may have romanticised this slightly in the decade or so that has past, this time of year still brings me happiness (even though it means Christmas is getting closer).
July's highlights July was a brilliant month for me that included a vast amount of barbecues and taking time away from my desk, as well as a trip to Berlin, which may very well be my favourite city now. I've also been listening to a lot of my old music with Pink's Misunderstood album being my go-to one at the moment. This may sound embarrassing to some, but I love this album and as a young 11/12-year-old was the first piece album that gave me solace before I fell into my teen angst. I think is partly to blame/praise for my independent attitude about life and being determined to do exactly what I want. I feel like I've started to find my blogging feet and know the creative path that I want it to go down, which hopefully means I'll keep it up for longer than past attempts. Blogging picks // Homeware Haul by Zoella - I know everyone knows about Zoella now so I don't need to tell you how brilliant she is but this homeware haul is one of my personal favourites. Homeware is like porn to me. August's expectations August, in fact this weekend, is the SO's birthday so we''ll be heading to our favourite restaurant Bella Donna near where both our parents live, which always makes me get excited as they do the best steak on earth - NO LIE. If you are ever near Derbyshire or Yorkshire it is well worth a visit. I'm managed to get my hands on my first issue of Oh Comely, which I've heard nothing but good things about, and a couple of notebooks to keep my blogging ideas down in. My aim for this month is to keep WKD up to standard and pretty regular, reading more brilliant blogs (the list is becoming endless) and getting stuck into more books. What do you want from August? |
