Me and the SO have been on a mission to try new things and new places to eat, which is pretty easy to do when you work in the centre of Leeds. So last night we decided to go to Loch Fyne and try their set menu. The SO has been keen to get more into seafood (I think he's having a small crisis about nearing 30) so we tried it out.
As we all sit around and feel shocked that we are already welcoming in September, I thought I'd do a recap of things I've loved over the past month. August was fun and I thought I'd show you what I was pinning throughout the month.
Can we just pay some attention to how beautiful this drawing by Lieke van der Vorst is? I had it pinned from ages ago and was looking for something and found it, and it is just beautiful. Follow the image if you want to see more of her stuff.
This week has flown, I don't know if it's because of the Bank Holiday or because it's the end of the month but I can't believe today is Friday. Scratch that, I can't believe Monday is the 1st of September - what's that about? More than half way through the year? 2014 has gone in a flash, and I'm not ready. I'm sad to say that I think summer may be over. The weather forecast is saying that, thanks to hurricane Bertha, that colder winds will be gracing us this weekend, meaning it's firmly back to leggings and jumpers for me.
This week has been a little difficult since hearing the tragic death of Robin Williams. I know that sounds overly dramatic and silly and obviously what I am feeling is nothing compared to that of his three children, wife or anyone that knew him personally, but I think it's the whole tragedy that is hitting home. My family have a history of depression and it just makes me so sad that someone can be so loved by their family, friends and complete strangers at the other side of the world but still not be OK.
However, on a brighter note. These links (some Robin Williams related) have been bringing a (somewhat smaller) smile to my face this week. This video from ABC Australia showing a team of commuters pushing a train to help free a man who got trapped between the tracks. This is something that panics me every time I leave a train or tube, especially since Berlin where the gaps are MASSIVE, so it makes me happy that people helped. POWER TO THE COMMUTERS. Hello August, you have definitely come around sooner than I was expecting but I don't mind in the slightest. As a kid, August was filled with days spent outside getting muddy and usually wet, going to parks in the early evening and then having barbecues, before going to sleep under the stars. Now while I may have romanticised this slightly in the decade or so that has past, this time of year still brings me happiness (even though it means Christmas is getting closer).
July's highlights July was a brilliant month for me that included a vast amount of barbecues and taking time away from my desk, as well as a trip to Berlin, which may very well be my favourite city now. I've also been listening to a lot of my old music with Pink's Misunderstood album being my go-to one at the moment. This may sound embarrassing to some, but I love this album and as a young 11/12-year-old was the first piece album that gave me solace before I fell into my teen angst. I think is partly to blame/praise for my independent attitude about life and being determined to do exactly what I want. I feel like I've started to find my blogging feet and know the creative path that I want it to go down, which hopefully means I'll keep it up for longer than past attempts. Blogging picks // Homeware Haul by Zoella - I know everyone knows about Zoella now so I don't need to tell you how brilliant she is but this homeware haul is one of my personal favourites. Homeware is like porn to me. August's expectations August, in fact this weekend, is the SO's birthday so we''ll be heading to our favourite restaurant Bella Donna near where both our parents live, which always makes me get excited as they do the best steak on earth - NO LIE. If you are ever near Derbyshire or Yorkshire it is well worth a visit. I'm managed to get my hands on my first issue of Oh Comely, which I've heard nothing but good things about, and a couple of notebooks to keep my blogging ideas down in. My aim for this month is to keep WKD up to standard and pretty regular, reading more brilliant blogs (the list is becoming endless) and getting stuck into more books. What do you want from August? |
