As a waitress for the best (and worst) parts of three years, I learnt to ignore Bank Holidays to the point where they were actually an inconvenience to me as it meant that I had to get snacks and food the night before if I was on a early shift. If I forgot, which was a pretty regular thing, it meant I went hungry for 11 or 12 hours or fell into the arms of a loving vending machine to get my sugar fix. However, now I have a job that I love most days and means that I get paid on Bank Holidays.
This means that I get a kind of child-on-Christmas-Eve kind of excitement when there is a Bank Holiday around the corner. I still can't quite get my head around the fact that I can paid to not turn up to work, have a lie in and generally do whatever I please.
To the absolute dismay of the SO, I insisted on heading out to join the mental Bank Holiday traffic after we had obviously grabbed a coffee and I checked that nothing significant had happened in the world.
As with most weekends, we've been spending it down with the SO's parents near Sheffield as he goes back to Liverpool in a handful of weeks. Once we had finished our coffees and quick breakfasts, we headed to the Range, which happens to be my favourite shop in the world. I'm not always stuck on buying something, I just like touching things and seeing what I could own. As I mentioned in a previous post, we're off to Sheffield Comic Con next weekend, which means that I have to be careful with spending as it is the dreaded end of the month too.
However, I did pick up a couple of things and none of them were needed or necessary but I bought them. One of the things that grinds my gears about living with the SO is that he just dumps his wallet/keys/change/whatever on the coffee table and ruins all my clean lines and nice positioning of things. Anyway, in the hope of keeping domestic bliss alive I decided to get this wicker-style basket so that he can put all his stuff in when he gets in, without the table looking like a mess. For £3,99 I thought it was worth the effort and I loved the metal detailing.

I slightly fell in love with this rope candle holder, which I think was about £5.99, and will fit in with the slight nautical theme I'm heading for in the living room of my flat. I can't help it, I'm just drawn to boat-related stuff, though I did resist a beautiful navigation clock that they had as I have only just bought a new one. I also HAD to buy a candle as none of the ones I has were just right. I think it was about £2.99.
