Last week some friends from work and I headed over to Bundobust. The Indian Street food place has quickly become one of the 'must visit' places in Leeds, and we had been meaning to go for weeks. Bundobust sits on Mill Hill between trendy tattoo shops and pubs and was brimming with people even on a rainy Friday lunchtime. The first thing I noticed - after the amazing smell of spices - was that the people sat down enjoying their pots of food were not the usual trendy people, they were professionals in suits and ties. It seems that good news spreads fast, and to all stages of the jobs ladder.
You can see why the place is so popular with working people though. We were served ridiculously quickly for the time of day we visited, the service was great and the food - well let me tell you about the food.
I'm a big meat eater. MASSIVE meat eater. So the fact that Bundobust is completely vegan could put some people off but let me tell you, you don't really miss a big chunk of meat in your little pots of goodness. The flavours are immense and superbly complement each other. The portions look little but are actually ideal for lunchtime, and two is more than enough. Priced at £3-£8 each, this can still be a little bit on the expensive side for a midday meal but for those times when you are looking for a slightly fancy lunch - it's ideal.

I had the Massala Dosa and a Lasse, which was the best thing I think I have ever drank. They also had an incredible list of beers that were available. I mean, my mind was blown by the amount they had on offer, and it seemed to be extremely popular with everyone who was sitting enjoying their meals.
Overall, Bundobust are doing an incredible job in an incredibly tough market. If there's one thing I've learnt since moving to Leeds, it's that if you want to make a living from selling food, you need to be great and you need to make sure people tell everyone how great it is. Based on these two points, I don't think Bundobust will be going anywhere anytime soon.
